How to Read a Food Label

FDA.gov: Using the Nutrition Facts Label: A How-To Guide for Older Adults

  • Check out the serving size.
  • Look at how many calories are in a single serving, less than 40 cals per serving is considered low and greater than 400 cals per serving is considered high.
  • Check out the percentage of your daily value each nutrient class accounts for, look for larger amounts of the green and low amounts of the yellow.
